If this just happened
- Get to a safe place as soon as possible.
- Call someone you trust and tell them where you are.
- If you may want medical or legal help, do not bathe, wash, brush your teeth, or clean up yet.
- If you changed clothes, place them in a paper bag if possible. Avoid plastic bags.
- Go to a hospital, sexual assault referral centre, or a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) as soon as possible.
Time matters
- HIV Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) works best within 72 hours.
- Emergency contraception works best within 72 to 120 hours.
- Medical staff can treat injuries and prevent infections.
- Forensic evidence is easier to collect early.
